Quality indicators

There are two main parameters for assessing the quality of feed: the amount of
metabolizable energy and its nutritional value.

Exchange energy, hereinafter referred to as EE, is an indicator characterizing feed as
fuel. That is, how much fuel each product gives. Will it be enough to ensure the smooth operation of such a complex mechanism as the body. This indicator is measured in Joules. Here the essence is no longer in the total amount of energy received, but in its varieties. For healthy functioning, the body needs various nutrient groups: proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. The more varieties of components of different groups in the final composition,
the more nutritious it is. Roughly speaking, to build a house, you need not only bricks, but also a large number of other building materials. So the body needs different elements.

The correct amount of EE and optimal nutritional value is achieved by mixing a large number of different substances in the correct ratio. For some beginner breeders, the cost of feeding cows seems high. So they decide to make it themselves. Most often, this leads to beriberi or low immunity in the animal. In some cases, the wrong diet causes the fall of the entire livestock of cattle. Therefore, experienced breeders are advised to use combined feeds. They have a high level of nutrition and an optimal level of EE. This is achieved by mixing up to 20 components simultaneously and in a strict ratio. Bringing the mixture to a homogeneous mass, guarantees uniform consumption of all components. You can go on listing the pros.

But it is easier to say that at home it is impossible to achieve even half of their performance. For example, connecting more than 10 components at the same time at home is
not possible. If we look at the benefits of combined feed for cows, its price does not seem so high anymore. But feed for cattle, the price of which is below average, should be chosen with extreme caution. It may be a low quality feed mix with minimal EE and nutritional value. Using it, the animal will simply fill the stomach, receiving neither energy nor microelements.

Varieties of compound feed

Complete (CCF). They provide the animal with a “complete diet”, that is, they contain the entire range of necessary elements and do not require supplements.
Concentrates (C). Such a mixture contains an increased amount of nutrients, therefore it acts as a nutritional supplement to a less nutritious diet. The composition is usually a large amount of proteins, minerals and trace elements.
Feed mixture. Such a product is less nutritious than a complete one. It cannot be used as the only food. It lacks fats, carbohydrates and trace elements. There are only proteins and fiber. Waste from the grain industry is used for production. Read more here:
Compound feed for farm animals
Protein-vitamin supplements (PVS). Used as a supplement to the main diet. They differ in the balanced structure and contain proteins, vitamins and almost all necessary minerals. Especially valued for the content of vitamin B, which is important for cattle.
Premixes (P). A concentrated supplement that contains enzymes and antibiotics. They are also used to supplement feed with missing elements. There are different types: universal, vitamin, mineral and amino acids.
