Breeding pigs

is one of the most popular types of animal breeding. Both experienced livestock breeders and farms, and independent breeders who want to get high-quality homemade meat can do it. There are many benefits to this type of farming. And novice breeders attribute the pickiness of pigs to food to one of them. But this is only partly so. Yes, they will eat anything you give them, but will such food make the final product tasty? Hardly. Therefore, experienced livestock breeders focus not on saving money on animal food, but on obtaining a quality product. This article will focus on what kind of feed for pigs to buy in order to maintain healthy condition and not spend the entire budget.

The first thing that can be said about the diet of pigs is that during their life it changes. Different stages of development correspond to different needs of the body for nutrients, and therefore different products. Therefore, the life of pigs was conditionally divided into periods corresponding to different diets:
  • lactic,
  • rearing,
  • fattening.
The latter one is divided into two sub-periods: the first one and second one.

Types of fattening pigs

The division into species is associated with different purposes for raising pigs. Goals:
  • meat,
  • lard,
  • bacon.
For the proper formation of each of them requires its own diet. But the separation does not begin immediately. To begin with, the organism must grow and form, and then build up a mass of some kind. Therefore, the milk period and rearing occur in all piglets in the same way, regardless of the goal. And during the fattening period, the division into species takes its place:
  • meat,
  • bacon,
  • to fatty conditions.

Meat fattening

This type of fattening can be called the most popular. Therefore, in this article we will focus on it. Since it has existed for more than a dozen years, a lot of ways have accumulated among livestock breeders to improve the growth rates of an animal:
  • alternating dry and wet food,
  • different norms for walking animals,
  • change in the predominance of concentrated feed and root tubers,
  • add feed concentrate for pigs and food waste and others to the main food.
Some of them are really helpful, while others can be harmful. Therefore, make it a habit to check the quality of information before using it. So, it’s worth starting with checking the readiness of the pig. Age must be at least 90 days, weight must be at least 25 kg. If both points are met, fattening begins. Its duration will be about 120-150 days. During this time, the animal can gain weight up to 100 kg. As mentioned above, fattening is divided into two sub-periods: the first one and second one. The first begins at the age of 90 days and lasts until reaching 160-170 days. The second one lasts from 170 to 240-250 days. The end of the second stage marks the achievement of the desired weight rather than the number of days. But ideally both should be taken into account.

1 period
During this period of time, the bulk of the diet should be succulent feed. It’s great if it falls during the warm season, when fresh and juicy foods are in abundance. If you are lucky with this, then in the diet of your pets should be:
  • corn,
  • bean greens,
  • gourds,
  • barley,
  • roots.
In the winter season, with a shortage of fresh plants, it is customary to include protein sources in the diet:
  • silage,
  • roots,
  • herbal flour,
  • legumes,
  • feed of animal origin.
The ratio of these components should be in a way that the amount of protein per 1 k.u. was at least 110 g. Otherwise, obesity and growth retardation cannot be avoided. It is also important to control the presence of such components as:
  • vitamins (A, B, D),
  • minerals,
  • amino acids.

A properly calculated diet will provide your pets with good health and stable weight gain. The norm at this stage is five hundred grams per day.

2 period
A distinctive feature of this stage is the predominance of concentrated feed in the diet. Their mass fraction in a serving can be up to 90%. If potatoes are present in the diet, the concentrate dose is reduced by 30-40%. The second period is shorter than the first, so feeds must be more nutritious in order to increase the rate of weight gain. At this stage, experienced breeders use pig feed. Because the rate of daily gain is now about seven hundred and fifty grams per day. This is difficult to achieve without the use of highly nutritious feeds. An important condition for such growth rate is a sufficient level of protein and minerals. Protein will ensure the growth of muscle tissue, not adipose tissue. And minerals support the qualitative functioning of all systems of internal organs. The list of essential minerals includes:
  • calcium (20 g),
  • sodium chloride (15 g),
  • phosphorus (10-12 g).
